Instructions for enabling microphone input

Noyes Lodge PC Lab
The "Creative Mixer" should be open in the upper right corner of the monitor. If it is not, click on the "Creative Mixer" icon in the lower right corner of the monitor (three icons to the left of the time). Once the Mixer is open, right click on the Mixer's title bar. From the drop down menu select "View" and then "Recording Control." Ensure the microphone is the default input by clicking on the box just under the microphone icon. When the microphone is selected the box under the microphone icon will be outlined in red. You can also adjust the record level of the microphone by moving the microphone's fader. If you wish to hear the microphone in your headphones, right click on the Mixer's title bar again. From the drop down menu select "View" and then "Volume Control." Now, click on the small speaker button below the microphone icon. When the speaker button is green, then the microphone will be heard in your headphones. When this icon is grey, you will not hear the microphone in your headphones. You can also adjust the play-thru volume if you want by moving the microphone's fader.
Windows 2000
Click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your monitor. From the menu select "Settings" and then "Control Panel." Click on the icon for "Sounds and Multimedia." In this window select the "Audio" tab. Ensure your sound card or built in sound hardware is selected in the "Sound Recording Preferred device" drop down window. If your hardware is not listed, please consult the documentation that came with it. Once the correct device is selected, click on "Volume" under "Sound Recording Preferred device." Enable the Microphone as the default input by clicking in its check box. Move the microphone's fader to a position three-quarters to the top. Close this window and click OK on the "Sounds and Multimedia Properties" window.
Windows XP
Click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your monitor.
From the menu select "Control Panel." Click on the icon for "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices."
Now click on the icon for "Sounds and Audio Devices." In this window select the "Audio" tab.
Ensure your sound card or built in sound hardware is selected in the "Sound recording Default device"
drop down window. If your hardware is not listed, please consult the documentation that came with it.
Once the correct device is selected, click on "Volume" under "Sound recording Default device."
Enable the Microphone as the default input by clicking in its check box.
Move the microphone's fader to a position three-quarters to the top.
Close this window and click OK on the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" window.
Mac OS X
Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your monitor. From the drop down menu select "System Preferences." Click on the "Show All" tab in the upper left corner of this window. Now click on the "Sound" icon. Select the "Input" tab. Select your microphone device and quit "System Preferences."
